A little help, O Wise and Knowledgeable Flist...

So here I am in jolly old England, settling in, classes just starting up (something I do plan to write about soon, I swear...) and in between the socializing, studying and exploring, I find myself watching quite a bit of TV. This is happening in part because I always watch more when I live alone (something to do when relaxing before bed or while eating dinner, etc) and partly because while I'm studying, I often use TV as a reward for getting work done (write another page on this essay, and you can watch another episode, etc). Good motivation for a horrible procrastinator like myself ^_-.

Anyways, my request: I'm looking for series to watch. (Just got through all of Criminal Minds, need something new...) It can be new or old (and by old, I mean whenever. Keep in mind one of my most recent fandoms was Man from UNCLE, and if that's not old skool, don't know what is...^_-) Any genre, whatever. If it's one of your favorites or just something you think'd be fun to watch. Just gimme a brief description, maybe why I might like it...(bonus points for anything with hurt/comfort, teaminess or siblings being cute)

Thanks flist, I'm counting on you! ^_^

ETA: As a reference to those who are reccing things, a list of what I have seen:

...I almost hesitate in posting this due to the sheer size...oops. And these are just the western fandoms, the list would be twice as long, at least, if I included anime/J-dramas...:-p

All of these are shows I've seen at least one full season of (some I haven't seen past that, like Heroes, due to lack of interest, but I've seen enough to get the feel of it)

Bold is for shows that I fanned on, by watching repeatedly/reading fic/reccing it, etc.

* means fandoms I've actually produced stuff for, be it art, fic, vids, whatnot...

30 Rock, Alien Nation, Arrested Development, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Babylon 5, Batman Beyond, Battlestar Galactica, Being Human, Big Bang Theory, Burn Notice, Carnivale, Castle, Colditz, Criminal Minds, Dinosaurs, Doctor Who, Due South, Eureka, Farscape, Firefly, Forever Knight, Gargoyles, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, Highlander*, Hustle, Invisible Man,Jeeves and Wooster, Justice League Unlimited, Legend (1995), Leverage, Life, Life on Mars, Lois and Clark, Lost, Malcom in the Middle, Man from UNCLE*, Merlin, NCIS*, NCIS: LA, Night Court, Numb3rs, Once a Thief, Prison Break, Professionals, Psych, Pushing Daisies, Quantum Leap, Queer as Folk (UK only), Real Ghostbusters*, Red Dwarf , Sapphire and Steel, Scrubs, Seaquest, Sentinel*, Seven Days, Sliders, Smallville*, Star Trek (all except for Enterprise), Stargate Atlantis*, Stargate SG-1*, Starsky and Hutch, Static Shock, Supernatural, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles , The Shield, Torchwood, Traders, True Blood, Twin Peaks, United States of Tara, Wiseguy, WitchBlade, Xena, X-Files*, X-men (Animated Series and Evolution)

...And chances are I've missed something...:-p

As someone already mentioned in the comments about keeping an eye on this post for ideas of there own, if there's any shows in this list you're interested in, feel free to ask for a description, rec, review, etc...

30 Rock is fantastic fun, at least I loved s1, haven't seen the rest yet.

Have seen a bit of HIMYM, and have quite enjoyed it - when did sitcoms start getting such snappy writing? Also, Neil Patrick Harris! <3

I have not seen supernatural.

Someone mentioned Flashforward. It's a decent enough show but I can tell you right now I don't think it's going to last. I'll be impressed if it makes through the first season.

Also, I'm a little sad that this is by the far most comments I've seen on an LJ post and its about TV. It just makes me sad =(

LOL...though I hate to say it, this is one of the lessor posts, comment-wise. My art and vid posts get way more, and compared to me, the major players in fandom get tons. (Like 20 pages worth)

Will definitely have to check out Glee!

Miss you, too! You're always welcome to come visit London town! ^__^ *huggles*

Ok, the old Mission Impossible was pretty good. I also love Murder She Wrote. Mom was a huge fan of The A-Team and the episodes I saw were a blast. I also personally love CSI despite it's many flaws, but it's still fun.

Gotta throw out a quick plug for The Magnificent Seven, if you haven't looked at it before. As an h/c fan who just discovered the fandom recently, I can't figure out how I missed it all these years. The show's tagline pretty much says it all: "Seven Men. One Destiny." Seven adorable cowboys forming a family and defending one-another to the death as they protect a town from evil ranchers, bank robbers, bandits, etc. (They also get an occasional visit from Robert Vaughn as the boys' boss. ;) )

Have (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRpkgJV6TU8) a couple (http://bamvidvault.ning.com/video/wild-one) pretty (http://www.youtube.com/group/m7#p/a/13/GPbM2730t2c) vids (http://bamvidvault.ning.com/video/i-will-never-let-you-go).

Canadian -- only three years of shows -- twisted theatre show (based on Stratford Theatre Festival) .. watch to to check out first one gets you the "ghost" and is a little weird.

Well according to your list, you have excellent taste. I recommend House, Fraiser and Newsradio. From the shows you listed, I think you would like these.

Found your LJ from a very old story on FFN, Those Left Behind, which is one of my all time favorite gravi stories. Laughed to see you were a fellow Seattlite. Enjoy England, I hear the weather is about the same haha!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2009-10-20 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, thanks so much. It's certainly eclectic taste, if nothing else ^_-. Hmm, Fraiser, forgot about that, should probably be on the list. I watched Fraiser on and off for years. As for House...I keep waffling about it. I'm curious about it for the characters (especially the slashiness I've heard is quite blatant, mmmmmm...^_^) BUT, I have a thing about Medical dramas...they kinda...freak me out. Even Scrubs, with all its comedy, was hard for me to watch at times. I start thinking about the diseases waaaaay too much :-p.

Awww, Those Left Behind...I'm still fond of that one. I can't help it, I love thought dead stuff. So glad you like it! ^__^

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2009-10-20 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, I've always meant to check that out. As you say, can't miss out with a catch phrase like that! ^_^

Hmmm, sounds interesting, will have to give it a go! Thanks for the rec! ^__^

So, all caught up on Chuck now....and still unsure how I feel about it...Parts of it were really fun,a nd parts of it drove me nuts. Either way, I am verrry curious to see where it's going. Thanks for the rec! ^__^

Hee.. I noticed after posting that you'd said you're not too keen on westerns. For the record, the western-ness was one of my stumbling blocks to paying attention to the series, too.

(Well, that and the fandom's reputation as being AU-central. Which is sorta screwy, now that I think of it. "Oh, it's a western? No thanks. But it's not always a western? Even worse." *_*)
