Recent Fanart...

Wow, three posts in a WEEK! *shocked gasp* I know...I'm terrrible! :-p.

Anyway, as most of my last few posts have been concerning, this also has to do with the continuing saga that is my obsession with Smallville. Last time, music vids (well, and random surveys ^_-), this time: fan art.

This pic is a scene from one of the last stories in the wonderful, awesome, amazing "Identical" series by Lanning Cook. Even if you're not at all into SV, I highly recommend this fic, especially if you like cute fluffly slash with healthy doses of h/c, adopted family cuteness, kickass plot, action and fun you-love-to-hate-'em villains! It is, in fact, what drew me into SV to begin with so...GO READ! If you do decide to though, know that this pic is a bit spoilerific...

Thoughts, comments, etc. much appreciated, even those unfamiliar with SV...

Oh yes! I loved that scene and the art matches it perfectly!

Good job!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! It is such a wonderful scene, isn't it? One of my favorites in any fic I've ever read, really...

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole series is amazing :)

I just re-read the series last month and I think you've captured that scene well. If I look at it too long I suffer vertigo, the sensation that I'm falling with him. Well done and I hope to see illustrations of other fics!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That was the effect I was going for, so happy it did work! Glad you liked it.

I hope to see illustrations of other fics!

There are a LOT of scenes begging to be drawn...wish I had time to do all the pictures that have been evoked from the plethora of good SV fic out there!

[identity profile] lapetite-kiki.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! That's really great!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Mmm, your icons always make me ever so happy.

[identity profile] lapetite-kiki.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I'm happy that you appreciate them! :-)

[identity profile] ladydey.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
This is great! You illustrated, beautifully, one of my favorite scenes from Alliance.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
So glad you liked it.

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, that's amazing. i love The Identical Series and always find that scene heart-wrenching. your lex looks so peaceful in his self-sacrifice, and clark's fear and need to rescue are almost palpable.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Was going for peaceful Lex, his line "Tell Clark I wasn't afraid" always made me think that's what he'd be like while falling. Self-sacrificial Lex is just too fun trying to draw. And read about ^_-

[identity profile] stitcher2ficcer.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you sent this pic to Lanning yet? Gotten a response?

Having just read this, I wouldn't worry about it being to spoilerific. Yes, it makes the outcome of that scene pretty clear... but reading the whole story? You wouldn't realize when it was coming until you got to that point in the story... and by that point you'd have to be wildly tuned out not to realize what's going to happen. The description made it really taut and sweet to read, but I, for one, was positive about the outcome. I don't think seeing the picture ahead of time would have spoiled it for me so much as just enhanced the image conveyed by the writing. You really did capture the scene exceedingly well. ^_~

[identity profile] xparrot.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's very spoilerific not in that it gives away the conclusion of the scene, so much as it gives away that the scene happens at all. It's a pretty major plot point, that Lex jumps off a building, and some people like to be surprised by events, not knowing what happens some nine stories in advance...

and it is a lovely pic, J-chan. the lighting on Lex's face and neck is awesome. And you already know how much I love the background. ^^

[identity profile] stitcher2ficcer.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The background and lighting really are tremendous, aren't they? **squeee** I have such talented daughters!! **Hugs you both**

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks again, and ditto to what neechan said.

[identity profile] supercaptain182.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, this is perfect. It captured that scene perfectly and the detail is so well done!

Great work!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, glad you liked it!

[identity profile] talitha78.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful. I love the coloring.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! The coloring especially was giving me trouble, night lighting on skin is hard to figure out, glad it came out okay in the end.

And I plan on doing a longer comment to you later on the actual post but LOVED your latest vid, the way you incorporated the movie scenes was brilliant, and loved your interpretation of what losing Clark would do to Lex. Awesome vid!

[identity profile] talitha78.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for your comment about my vid! I'm glad that you enjoyed it and that the blending of sources worked for you. :)

[identity profile] sara-tanaquil.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Have I mentioned that I hate you? I spent SO MANY HOURS reading that series after you recced it before. It's fantastic. <3 (But now I can't watch the actual series because the non-Identical reality will depress me too much.)

Lovely pic! I hope you do more illustrations from that series.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-24 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Heheheheh, I WIN! Ain't it great though?

(But now I can't watch the actual series because the non-Identical reality will depress me too much.)

Yeah, that is a problem...but really, that's what all the wonderful "fixing the rift" fics are for. Cause no matter how much the show splits them up, all the wonderful wonderful future fics which have them getting together after they've been enemies for years makes it all better! You know you wanna reeeeaaad them....(Yes, yes I *am* dangerous ^_-)

[identity profile] sara-tanaquil.livejournal.com 2007-02-25 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
*watches the train wreck of my evenings in progress*

OK, you already recced some "fixing the rift" fics, and I liked most of them, though not as much as Identical. More recs?

LOL on your advice below not to watch most of the actual series. That's how I feel about Weiss Kreuz -- the fic is far better than the series.

(I love your icon, BTW.)

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-25 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehhe, first off, be prepared that nothing is quite as good as Identical (at least in my opinion...god I can't wait for the next story in that!)

But there is still a LOT of good stuff out there. If you wander over to The Smallville Slash Archive there's a LOT of good stuff. If you do a search, some good authors are:
RivkaT (about half her stuff is happy and light and cute and the other half is dark and reeeally angsty and scary and often depressing...so, if you're not in the mood for that just pay close attention to the ratings/warnings/categories. Some of my favorites by her are "Rainbow Signs" "Yellow" and "A Life less Invulnerable" and "Switch: A comedy of Terrors).

Bagheera has only written a few fic but I LOVE her stuff...though it frustrates me terribly at the same time to think she's only 21 and English is her second language...I GRR at talented people ^_-

Corinna's Marilyn Monroe trilogy is great, love all three of 'em.

Also, some stories that I can't remember who wrote but loved of them, and you should be easily able to find under title search are:

Photographic Evidence
That Old Schizophrenic Jealousy
The Prometheus Project (LONG fic, EXCELLENT, rather dark but does have a happy ending and was definitely inspired by Identical, especially concerning how Lex interacts with the Kents.)
The Grope of Destiny (HILARIOUS and has one of the best lines ever)

Also, Neechan has been writing some, and while I'm clearly biased, I still say her fic are awesome and fun and she's writing this wonderfully long fantastic one that she should be posting soon so...You can find all her stuff at [livejournal.com profile] xparrot.

Well, that should keep you busy for now...I've got more when you need 'em..

Another fun author is Vivian Darkbloom. She has fun stuff, with a LOT of very graphic sex thrown in for fun.

Lady Ra only has a couple fix but they're really fun, especially "Drilling Holes" and "Eavesdropping".

[identity profile] byakkodan-slash.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooo! pretty!

Best thing about this picture is Clark's face. You got the emotion etched perfectly there. I also think it's the place you have the best technique. Other things I love: Lex's shoes and the cars on the street. The whole picture is all about movement: the cars streaking by, the wind blowing open lex's coat, clark rushing up to meet him, and yet it has a sense of stillness to it: that time has slowed down to this one moment. This picture would be that big dramatic moment of a movie where emotions are running high and at the apex the film slows down and you see everything in detail in the stillness.

Things I do not like so much about this: let's face and head just seem off to me. It might just be the baldness throwing me though. Also, you did a great job with the perspective of hte buildings, but you left them rather flat looking. Some of the window reflections are spot on, and some look like you rushed them.

You and your smallville fandom. YOU WILL NOT SUCK ME INTO YOUR SMALLVILLE VORTEX! never!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-24 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeeeah, I kinda skimped on some of the building details...that kinda tedious stuff is what I hate most about doing backgrounds...cause lets face it, I'm lazy ^_-

You and your smallville fandom. YOU WILL NOT SUCK ME INTO YOUR SMALLVILLE VORTEX! never!

You know you waaaannnt to. It's wonderful and has lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots *deeeep breath* and lots and LOTS of amazing, excellently written, HOT guy on guy smut! How can you resist? ^_- ...Knowing that allure, how *have* you resisted for this long?

[identity profile] byakkodan-slash.livejournal.com 2007-02-25 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I know that it has an increadibly strong fancommunity. I don't know why I've never watched it. I love the premise of the show. I love superman and the DC universe. But for some reason the show's never attracted me. I've seen sippets of episodes here and there, and I've never found the show enjoyable.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-25 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, see, there's your problem...trying to like the show. The truth is, SV itself is kinda...err...not that good. My suggestion is to watch all the Clark and Lex scenes, all the scenes with Lex and Lionel (cause the Magnificent bastard is just that awesome), some of stuff with the Kents (if you enjoy cute family stuff) and skip most everything else. Especially any scenes with Lana. Avoid her like the PLAGUE, we did. Yes, you may miss some plot this way...but if its concerning Lana you probably didn't want to know it any, and you can also just check out the TWOP summaries, which are sheer genius.

And then yo devour fic. Because really, it's all about the fic. And so much of the fic takes place in the future, in what would be the normal Superman time frame...just with the background that Lex and Clark were once totally, hopelessly in love "best friends."

[identity profile] rakshanda.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to have seen SV to enjoy Lanning's story. It's really incredible. SOOOOO much better than the show.

[identity profile] utopiantrunks.livejournal.com 2007-02-24 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Really sweet perspective on the buildings, and I like all the lighting, with the traffic below. Nice pic! ^_^

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-24 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, glad you like! How'd the test go? *huggles*

[identity profile] utopiantrunks.livejournal.com 2007-02-27 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Not too bad. They're done!

oh wow ...

[identity profile] bonnysprite.livejournal.com 2007-02-24 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
... I haven't had the pleasure of reading the fic yet, but I'm so doing so this weekend, during work! *shhh*

that, wow, it is a happily ever after fic, right? should i be worried about my heart falling to pieces, your scene ...

simply, thank you

smiles,
kik

Weeeell, the series isn't finished yet, so I can't 100% guarantee it, but all of the individual stories have ended happy so I'm pretty sure it'll all turn out alright in the end.

Enjoy the read, it really is an amazing series!

That's fantastic! I can almost hear Clark screaming, "LEX!" And I love that Lex's pose echoes the crucifixion. As Eli said, "Always the noble sacrifice." :)

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-24 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Ahh...Eli...so do love him. If I could, I woulda worked him into the pic...

I agree on capnzebbie, Lex peaceful face expression, the shadows that you were creating, his entire crux pose, a fantastic art for an incredible fic!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-24 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you liked it, thanks so much!

[identity profile] denynothing1.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
This is a fabulous illustration of one of my favorite scenes in all of fic. Thank you for making my enjoyment of it even better!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you like! Identical in general really is just some of the best fandom has to offer, ain't it? ^_^

[identity profile] rakshanda.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Marvelous! This was fave scene in the story. Make sure Lanning knows about this.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I sent it to her and she sent back wonderful, nice, comments (insert happy fangirl flailing).

Ya know one day that Smallville obsession is going to consume your life

Too late :-p...but don't worry, the passion for my fandoms tends to burn out quickly. Give it a few months and I'll be back to...er, well, I'd say "normal" but we all know that's a state I'll never achieve. ^_-

Also, what is this GF you mention in LJ info, details details, coz! *huggles*

Your artwork is beautiful and Identical Series is one of my favorite stories ever. This captures the feeling I had when I read it so wonderfully.

Oh, don't worry. I haven't forgotten about the next episode. I just need time to sit down and be able to make it. I have the song and caps ready and everything.
