So, here we are again, with another music vid (SGA again) to offer. One that ATE MY SOUL. Nomnomnomnommmm. Mmm, apparently quite tasty! Who knew? Well, other than almost every fandom I've been in…ah well.

Vid info, download links and an extensive, rambling vidder's note

Title: What is Eternal?
Song: from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Beethoven's Last Night
Character: Rodney…oh, OOohhh Rodney
Category: episode-related (Last Man), angst, and does Rodney McKay count as its own category?
Spoilers: Yes, yes and very much YES. All of the show, particularly "The Last Man". Will probably make very little sense if you *haven't* seen season four, so don't watch if you have yet to be shown it, this means YOU, [livejournal.com profile] utopiantrunks! *cough* ^_-
Size: ~56 MB
Format: .avi
Notes: Vidder's note on just what addled thoughts were passing through my brain as this vid sucked hours, days, WEEKS from my life, can be found after the download links.

Vidder's Notes:

So, I first got obsessed with Beethoven's Last Night several weeks before "The Last Man" aired, and at the time, I recall thinking, hmm, "What Is Eternal" could make a fun SGA vid. Maybe a Rodney piece, maybe the whole team, whatever. With no clear ideas jumping out at me, I put it on the back burner to stew for a bit. Then they gave us the season finale and it was OMG must do this vid NOW. Rodney, oh Rodney, so, SO perfect.

And thus began several weeks of semi-permanent exhaustion. Because, beyond eating my soul, this vid also devoured most of the hours I should have been doing useful things, like say, oh, SLEEPING. But, totally worth it. 'Cause…well, Rodney!

Still being kinda new to this whole vidding 'thang, I used this opportunity to test some new techniques. Like the image matte keying feature, which opens all kinds of new doors. (Coincidentally, I also discovered my computer reeealllly doesn't like having both Photoshop and Premiere open at the same time :-p) I hope what I was trying to accomplish comes through in the end…and that I didn't clutter up the video too much. :-p

As always, I'd very much like to know what people think (truthfully, with all the hours, and amount of SOUL this has eaten up, it's more like 'incredibly anxious to know" :-p), C & C is tremendously welcome!

*blushes* Thank you so much! 'guh' works, it's the thought that counts ^_^ Poor Rodney, his head just so isn't a very happy place, at least not in Last Man *huggles him*

This is utterly amazing! And you say that you're new to vidding? Do you do something similiar in real life? You have such an eye for matching lyrics to video. Kudos that you can even remember just the right moment to use after 4 years of episodes, wow!

And you have a definite ending moment. So many videos I see are great but then the last moment just doesn't feel like an ending or it feels like the vid just stops because the music ended.

Do you know that David Hewlett is having a little contest in cross promoting SG1's "Ark of Truth" with his own movie, "A Dog's Breakfast"? You really should enter. Check it out here (http://www.adogsbreakfastmovie.com/content/view/157/35/) and here. (http://www.adogsbreakfastmovie.com/content/view/158/) His fans have set up a YouTube Group (http://www.youtube.com/group/barkoftruth) where the entries can be posted. He didn't post a deadline, though, so I don't know when he'll pick a winner.

LOVE IT

Hi thank you for this. I simply love it and the song does illustrate Rodney, a soft core with a backbone which cannot be denied. I loved the way in which you illustrate Rodney's life.I haven't seen much of the fourth season but this does make me curious to see it very soon!

This vid works very, very well! I love the journey from where Rodney started to where he ended up because (as I always tell people) the Rodney McKay we all met on SG1 is not who he is now. He's grown and changed and the journey has affected him greatly. This vid shows that amazingly well. Great job!

Wow. Just ... wow. Vidding is so far out of the realm of my capabilities that I'm always stunned by them, but this took my breath away. Incredible work. All those sleepless hours paid of in a big way. Congratulations.

Meep. That made me shiver all over. Fantastic. Just a marvellous piece of work, you told the story incredibly well. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Oh my god this is incredible. I watched the vid before reading your notes - you write you're new to vidding, which I can't believe since you not only tell this story so beautifully, the vid is also technically awesome. And the music. Ingenious. ♥

Well done!

This was amazing and the whole scenery and the music all together made me cry for poor, poor Rodney. This was brilliant, and I have saved it, because I am so going to watch it again.

One word: breathtaking!

What a beautiful video. You've done wonderful things with those clips and given us a great retrospective of Rodney throughout his SG time. Well done and be proud of your work!

I've just recently begun devouring McShep and watching SGA, but this still brought tears to my eyes. What a powerful piece you've created!

Well that made me cry. Saved for rewatchings.

Thank you! So glad you like it!

Well, fairly new, started last year, this is my fourth vid. Haven't had much experience with vidding (I'm an English teacher in Japan, so, nah, not much related :-p) but I've been using Photoshop and such for years, so have some familiarity with the programs and such. And have been fanning on vids for years and been wanting to try it, just never had the computer that could handle it :-p

...As for remembering clips for four years...*cough* well, um, I only got into SGA six months ago, and have since watched the entire show thru...er...several times...in the interest of sharing it with other...really! ^_- So, how shall we say, it's a bit fresh ^_-

And thanks for the links! I'll definitely have to check that out! DH's blog is just ever so fun, ain't it. Damn, but he's just so awesome! ^_-

So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much! Fourth season is a romp, a lot of great eps, especially for Rodney lovers! And if you haven't seen Last Man...oh, oh OH RODNEY!!! *squishes him*

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, glad you like it! And yeah, I say it too, Rodney of 48 hours is SO different. Wonderfully so! Hell, even Rodney of first season is quite a different man. It's really striking to go back and watch the early SGA stuff....when he wore blue. Why oh why do we never get the blue shirts anymore? He looks so good in them! *sigh* ^_-

Wow, just....I have no words. I kept getting interrupted so I didn't think it wouldn't continue to be that powerful the whole way through but it really was.

I'll be downloading this the first chance I get.
Bravo!

oh! *hands tissue* thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!

*blushes* thank you so much! Vidding was something I'd admired for years but was to overwhelmed/nervous/lacking in hardware to try for the longest time. It's amazingly fun once you get going though! And glad to know the skimping on sleep paid off in the end! ^_^
