More SGA art…and not chibis this time! *gasp*

Since coming back from Thailand (I'll post on the trip soon, I swear, with pictures even. Really, really I will), I've been working feverishly to get this picture for the SGA art fest, [livejournal.com profile] paintedspires, done in time for my posting date of Tuesday. And I succeeded, and well, it's Tuesday, at least by my time, so um…yeah.

Little preview:

Title: Night Reflections
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] gnine
Rating: G
Prompt: Whales, stars, Atlantis at night
Medium: original quick pencil sketch, scanned and colored in photoshop
Character(s): Atlantis, Rodney, some whales
Notes 1: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] xparrot and my brother for their usual beta efforts, otherwise known as "hey, come here and tell me what's wrong with this."

Notes 2: I wound up using over 80 layers in photoshop to get the completed image(my computer was NOT happy) and it took about as many hours to do so. :-p The prompt didn't really specify Rodney or anything, but well…whales! How could he not be there? ^_-

As always, C & C very appreciated! ^_^

This is amazing. The stars are beautiful and somehow seem to speak perfectly of alien sky and the reflection of Atlantis in the water makes me want to dive in.

I love the look and feel of the city -- and its reflection all shimmery in the water.

Aww, Rodney and his whale buddies! This is beautiful: the reflection of Atlantis in the water, Atlantis itself, the night sky, and the light shining off Rodney's face. What a lovely, peaceful moment for him.

Oh wait, duh, Rodney's fantastic as well; it really looks like him. Especially his little ear!

Oh wow. Where to begin? The lighting is absolutely astonishing, and I especially love it on Rodney's face. The reflection on the water is gorgeous, and even though the colors are cool, I really get a sense of warmth with this. (Scrolls up to stare some more.) Man, I REALLY love the lighting on Rodney's face!

Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

Oh, wow, that is gorgeous. Everything, the reflections in the water, the lights, the whale, Rodney, the buildings, the sky--absolutely gorgeous.

[identity profile] calcitrix.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! I can't imagine what it took to get the buildings to look so realistic! Rodney and the whales are awesome too, of course--but the buildings! And the water--!! Excellent!

Oh, wow! This is soft and lovely and just right.

Ooooh, beautiful! I really like the glowy effect around the different points of light, and the hint of different constellations in the sky. The stylized interpretation of the city is really intriguing--I'm not used to seeing it with so many colors, but the effect is excellent! Plus, whales + Rodney = &hearts !

This is beautiful. The moons, the sprinkling of stars, the lights in Atlantis... The reflections in the water are perfect shaky, indistinct images. It's obvious you spent quite a bit of time perfecting this.

But most beautiful of all? The whales jumping and Rodney caught in a silent moment. Gorgeously done!

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Glad you like...and yeah, Rodney and whales just *belong* together! ^_^

Thanks! I was having fun doing all the detail on Rodney...it meant spending lots of time starring at a number of beautfiul Rodney shots for reference. Oh...the hardship ^_- So glad yo like!

I'm still curious if they do ever going swimming around the city...I know there are plenty of shots that make me wanna dive in, so....
