More SGA art…and not chibis this time! *gasp*

Since coming back from Thailand (I'll post on the trip soon, I swear, with pictures even. Really, really I will), I've been working feverishly to get this picture for the SGA art fest, [livejournal.com profile] paintedspires, done in time for my posting date of Tuesday. And I succeeded, and well, it's Tuesday, at least by my time, so um…yeah.

Little preview:

Title: Night Reflections
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] gnine
Rating: G
Prompt: Whales, stars, Atlantis at night
Medium: original quick pencil sketch, scanned and colored in photoshop
Character(s): Atlantis, Rodney, some whales
Notes 1: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] xparrot and my brother for their usual beta efforts, otherwise known as "hey, come here and tell me what's wrong with this."

Notes 2: I wound up using over 80 layers in photoshop to get the completed image(my computer was NOT happy) and it took about as many hours to do so. :-p The prompt didn't really specify Rodney or anything, but well…whales! How could he not be there? ^_-

As always, C & C very appreciated! ^_^

Thanks! ...the city took forever...lots and lots of layers and time.

Also, your icon is adorable and very distracting, I just keep watching them blink...:-p

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much ^_^

...Also, your icon, I keep seeing it...is that from the hilarious BL with the boys in the tea club, or something else? Hard to tell from how the pic is cut...

Thanks so much!

Yeah, I was having a bit of fun with the varying colors of the buildings...doing them all in shades of gray just got too boring ^_- Glad it works!

And yeah, Rodney and whales, how can you go wrong? ^_-

Thanks! Glad you liked it ^_^

Thanks so much!

I love Rodney in his quiet moments...okay, I love Rodney in ALL his moments, but he's especially lovely when he pauses and gets all serious and glad I was able to capture thanks. Thanks for commenting ^_^

This is stunning. I can well imagine it took you 80 layers to do, but it's worth it; it's just gorgeous. The lighting and the water effects are just perfect, and the movement of the whales is lovely. I really like the starry sky as well, and the sky and buildings reflected in the ocean are brilliant. Excellent work.

Stunning painting! The reflections of the city are great and I love the way the light falls on Rodney's face

Heeee, thanks! I possibly went a little overboard with all the layers and detail...but, yeah. Glad it worked! ^_^ *huggles* So glad you like! And now we get to finish showing it to you soon, wheeeee!

Thank you! Glad you like! ^_^

Amazing! I thought it was impossible but you actually topped your first paintedspires artwork! This one is just incredible. The water, the light, the reflections, the details - I could go on forever, all of this is so gorgeous and beautifully done. Stunning, really ♥

Yup, that's where it's from. There's this walpaper-type thing for it, and I kind of flashed on that image as an icon.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! Though, um, this is my only paintedspires piece, other one you're thinking of must be by someone else...

Glad you liked it though! ^_^

I'm still curious if they do ever going swimming around the city

God I was only wondering about this. But then only time they seem to go near the water the end up trapped at teh bottom of the ocean or fighting Wraith so... maybe they think its best to stear clear just in case :-)

[identity profile] taiteilija.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoops! Oh, right, you're the one who made that awesome "What is Eternal" vid, right? Well, I'm glad I don't have to chose my favorite work from you *g*

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, no problem, and *blushes* yup, that was my vid. And now I have to decide whether my next big project will be another vid or a nice detailed John/Rodney pic...decisions, decisions ^_-

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol! Probably true! they really just have no luck with water, alas...especially since Rodney looks so adorable wet! But he's always wet and miserable, too bad he never gets 'happy and wet'! ^_-

[identity profile] ladyoflisquill.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sure there is a fangirl somewhere out there working diligently to show Rodney wet 'n wonderful!!!

[identity profile] le-mot-mo.livejournal.com 2008-05-06 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
though the patch on Rodney's jacket drove me CRAZY

Yeah, but see-- you kept on working on the patch until it looked perfect. And that is what I love about this piece. The hard work clearly shows in all the little details.

or the even more "fun" realization that you've been drawing on the WRONG layer for who knows how long

God yes-- that is horror all right. And then you have to remove all the work and create a new layer to do the same work all over again. And of course the second time around doesn't go as smoothly as the first one. *cringes* Yeah, I know how that feels.
