More SGA art…and not chibis this time! *gasp*

Since coming back from Thailand (I'll post on the trip soon, I swear, with pictures even. Really, really I will), I've been working feverishly to get this picture for the SGA art fest, [livejournal.com profile] paintedspires, done in time for my posting date of Tuesday. And I succeeded, and well, it's Tuesday, at least by my time, so um…yeah.

Little preview:

Title: Night Reflections
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] gnine
Rating: G
Prompt: Whales, stars, Atlantis at night
Medium: original quick pencil sketch, scanned and colored in photoshop
Character(s): Atlantis, Rodney, some whales
Notes 1: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] xparrot and my brother for their usual beta efforts, otherwise known as "hey, come here and tell me what's wrong with this."

Notes 2: I wound up using over 80 layers in photoshop to get the completed image(my computer was NOT happy) and it took about as many hours to do so. :-p The prompt didn't really specify Rodney or anything, but well…whales! How could he not be there? ^_-

As always, C & C very appreciated! ^_^

*stares*

This is absolutely gorgeous. The detail is incredible. It's everywhere-- from the whales and the reflection on the water to the city and the Atlantis-patch on Rodney's jacket. Incredible work.

I would frame this and hang it on my wall if I could, because this is the kind of professional artwork that I can stare at for hours.

ETA: just wanted to say that I sympathise on the use of Photoshop layers. I used a gazillion billion layers myself for my paintedspires art, so I know how confusing it can be to find 'that' layer that you really need, because there's something you just have to change. *headdesk*

Bravo.

*blushes* Thank you so much! I was having fun with the details (though the patch on Rodney's jacket drove me CRAZY)

...And yeah, the joys of photoshop. Finding the right layer...or the even more "fun" realization that you've been drawing on the WRONG layer for who knows how long! *headdesk* is right! ^_-

Yeah, but see-- you kept on working on the patch until it looked perfect. And that is what I love about this piece. The hard work clearly shows in all the little details.

or the even more "fun" realization that you've been drawing on the WRONG layer for who knows how long

God yes-- that is horror all right. And then you have to remove all the work and create a new layer to do the same work all over again. And of course the second time around doesn't go as smoothly as the first one. *cringes* Yeah, I know how that feels.
