More SGA art…and not chibis this time! *gasp*

Since coming back from Thailand (I'll post on the trip soon, I swear, with pictures even. Really, really I will), I've been working feverishly to get this picture for the SGA art fest, [livejournal.com profile] paintedspires, done in time for my posting date of Tuesday. And I succeeded, and well, it's Tuesday, at least by my time, so um…yeah.

Little preview:

Title: Night Reflections
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] gnine
Rating: G
Prompt: Whales, stars, Atlantis at night
Medium: original quick pencil sketch, scanned and colored in photoshop
Character(s): Atlantis, Rodney, some whales
Notes 1: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] xparrot and my brother for their usual beta efforts, otherwise known as "hey, come here and tell me what's wrong with this."

Notes 2: I wound up using over 80 layers in photoshop to get the completed image(my computer was NOT happy) and it took about as many hours to do so. :-p The prompt didn't really specify Rodney or anything, but well…whales! How could he not be there? ^_-

As always, C & C very appreciated! ^_^

*flails* That's awesome.*flails some more*

All the details and the WATER! So cool.

Beautiful!

I really love this. Good lord, the detail! Right down to the water streaming from the jumping whale and Rodney's patch, not to mention Atlantis.

Beautiful work!

This is such a pretty scene with Atlantis' lights and the night sky and all. Also, I will always find Rodney and his whales just adorable.

Oh this captures the night scenes we've already seen of the show so beautifully and adds to them perfectly! The shadows on his face make me very, very happy and I can just see this happening, even though they'd never 'waste' time on the show letting us see it.

*hugs you* This is fabulous!

Oh my God, this is gorgeous! And the work! This is truly beautiful and I love Rodney's contemplative look and the reflections in the water. My mind just boggles at how lovely this is and how much work this must have been. Very well done!

Oh, that looks really nice, I really like the reflections in the water, and Rodney's pose :)

God, the lighting on this makes everything look utterly @#$%& real. The city doesn't look quite in the canon style to me, but--no, that's it, this city looks hopping, inhabited, and I like that! LOVE the lit path along the water it is tickling my world-building sensibilities like mad. I want to go walk along there! Or just imagine the ordinary Atlantis personnel on their hot Friday night dates.

oh, my, that's absolutely gorgeous. I love the way you've painted the sea - beautiful reflections ... and the whale ... and the city ... and Rodney.

This is exquisite. The detail is *absolutely* amazing including the sky and the reflection in the water.

Thanks! Glad you liked it.

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! Err, yeah, I went a bit overboard with the detail...this version is only at 25% of the original...

...And Rodney's patch took FOREVER! As did the city :-p Glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting! ^_^

[identity profile] echelon-ga-l.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Wonderful ! This is gorgeous, everything is perfect, the atmosphere, the details... I love it !

[identity profile] gnine.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, thanks! And yeah, Rodney w/ Whales will ALWAYS equal death from cute! He just gets so adorkable around them! ^_^

[identity profile] dvslj.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa - gorgeous. Especially the city lights and reflections on the water.

[identity profile] le-mot-mo.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
*stares*

This is absolutely gorgeous. The detail is incredible. It's everywhere-- from the whales and the reflection on the water to the city and the Atlantis-patch on Rodney's jacket. Incredible work.

I would frame this and hang it on my wall if I could, because this is the kind of professional artwork that I can stare at for hours.

ETA: just wanted to say that I sympathise on the use of Photoshop layers. I used a gazillion billion layers myself for my paintedspires art, so I know how confusing it can be to find 'that' layer that you really need, because there's something you just have to change. *headdesk*

Bravo.

I'm in love with the shots of Atlantis they give us, day and night, so had fun doing this.

So glad you liked it! Thanks so much *hugs back*
