Actually, that's not true. She asked him out after Trio, and he was very, very Rodney in Trio. He panicked, he tried to show off with his rope throwing skills (and failed), he got angry and frustrated and scared, he yelled, he tried to give up, and he talked about how hot Carter's body was....As I said, he was very Rodney. And it was after all of that that she asked him out. So, I'm pretty sure she likes him as "Rodney", foibles and all.
I don't think it's Keller -- I think it's Rodney, thinking he has to change to be liked. I think he got that idea in his head after he lost Katie. He studied on what happened in Quarantine, and that's where his mind got messed up. You can't blame Keller for Rodney's own self-doubt.
