RL ramblings, new fandom flail and Fanart!

Hmm, everyone seems to be making the shift...don't suppose anyone has a dreamwidth invite handy?

So, been nearly two months since I updated. Again. Whoops! I know I keep saying it, but one of these days I'll actually be better about this. Someday, someday...:-p. Though I do have more of an excuse this time than usual...With the craziness of getting ready to leave Japan next month, the stress of applying, waiting to hear, and then when I did, trying to figure out how to *pay* for grad school (in London no less! Hella expensive, lemme tell yah!) and the end of school year/new school year hecticness that is spring time in Japan, LJ, sadly, fell by the wayside.

But, neechan and I now have tickets to Seattle for the end of May (as well as tickets to Vietnam, heading there this Sunday! W00t! One more romp through Asia before we return *does her "I'm about to be traveling soon, wai wai!!" dance*), I now know I'm going to University of London in the fall (provided funding does come through :-p) and with the new contract year started (I'm down to part time, only three days a week until I leave next month), my free time is once more on the upswing. \o/ Which, also, unfortunately, left me time to find a new fandom. Oops :-p. Or...rather, a very old one.

Any of you who also read my sister, [livejournal.com profile] xparrot's, lj will have probably already realized I mean "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.". (She has a glorious post about the five reasons why one should watch Muncle over on her lj.) Though really, there's one reason that stands clear above the rest...

See, the thing is, this wasn't supposed to happen. We were on a bit of an old skool kick, first Wiseguy, then Starsky and Hutch and well...jumping back yet another decade seemed a logical progression? (Well, logical for us, at any rate :-p) And besides, we were curious to see a show with "Young Ducky" and "Young Albie" starring together. It was suppose to be an amusing diversion. We just weren't expecting, weren't *prepared* for the wonder that is *Illya*!

Everyone in our Saturday fangirl group, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of crazy, screaming fangirls back in the sixties (seriously, as bad as Beatle mania, no joke) seem utterly unable to resist the combination of tiny, blond, brilliant, snarktastic, badass, tiny, whipping boy, hot, cute, tiny, adorable awesomeness that is Illya Kuryakin. Though the fact that we are simultaneously watching NCIS (same actor who plays Ducky) is a bit brain-breaking. (Then there was the one night we watched eps of Hustle, NCIS *and* Muncle in a row. Now *that* was some whiplash!)

And now we have this little micro fandom going on here in Kyoto, with [livejournal.com profile] xparrot and [livejournal.com profile] utopiantrunks writing wonderful, glorious fic and the six of us that make up the Sat. crew watching all together and squeeing and well *sigh* the fanart was just unavoidable. ^_- For my first foray into Muncle fandom, I present more chibis (someday I do hope to do more McShep chibi comics, but for now, alas, this'll have to do):

C & C very much welcome. As always, thanks to my wonderful sister/beta/art critic/script puzzler-outer, [livejournal.com profile] xparrot.

As I said to [livejournal.com profile] xparrot (I think), Man from UNCLE was my first fandom, so it's been HUGE JOY seeing you guys get into it too :D And your chibis are adorable! So cute! Right down to Napoleon's chin *g*

London? Cool :D You'll be...oh...about 60 miles from me. Have fun (good luck with the funding!), and I do good tours of Oxford if you fancy a day trip ;D

[I lack Illya icons, so Steel will have to do]

I'm just sad (and truly puzzled) how we never came across it before. It was our Dad's favorite show, way back when, but he never shared it with us. Le sigh. But at least we've discovered the joy now! ^__^

So glad you like the comic, having way too much fun chibifying them, truly ^_-

And I'd love to meet up! Definitely gonna want to be visiting Oxford while I'm in London! And I love meeting my flist in person, always a joy!

[Mmmm, Steel, I need to make me some icons for that as well! Sexy older David McCallum is sexy! ^_-]
