So, after a whirlwind two weeks of sorting through everything I owned in Japan, trying to get rid of much as possible (then throwing away even more stuff away when I kept realizing just how NOT feasible it was going to be to get it all home! :-p), packing, packing and more packing, going to the different sayonara get-togethers and (hardest of all), all the good-byes, [livejournal.com profile] xparrot and I have finally made it to Seattle safe and sound.

And the bro has been very good to our crazily-sleep-deprived, totally-exhausted-from-carrying-multiple-bags-all-just-at-the-weight-limit selves, and took very good care of us on our arrival (and will continue to do so by putting us up at his new house, yay! \o/). So, greetings from Seattle and now that we're here, hopefully things will settle down a bit and I'll have time to get back to more...creative pursuits. (ie, in this case, Muncle vids/art...^_-) Though this respite sadly won't last for too long, 'cause in September I get to do it all again. Joy :-p. I do love living abroad, but the getting there and back? Not so fun! :-p)

Hmm, everyone seems to be making the shift...don't suppose anyone has a dreamwidth invite handy?

So, a little while back, Neechan and I decided to engage in some Spring cleaning. (Okay, so it was in July, and as such, not so much "Spring" as good-GOD-remind-me-*why*-I-live-in-Kyoto as-we-sit-here-boiling-in-our-own-juices "Summer" cleaning, but I digress...)

Anyways, as part of said cleaning, we decided to (finally) dispose of the almost two-year backlog of weekly and/or monthly manga magazines we had lying about, collecting dust and taking up much needed space, space that could be used for more important things like...err...more books. Um, did I mention we lose?

As we sorted through the comics, stacks piled high around us (for those who've never been to Japan, and/or are unfamiliar with the likes of Shounen Jump, etc. these things are in no way SMALL. The *thinnest* is more than an inch thick), we were reminded of something our mom used to say all the time when we were kids (often accompanied by a head shake of despair as she glanced about our bedroom, searching for a place to walk): that one day, when we had adult incomes and our own place to live, we'd have no need to buy furniture, for we could simply construct all necessary pieces out of our vast collection of books.

ExpandMan, did she have us pegged! )

Course, really, we're just following the long standing family tradition/rule, which states we will always have enough books to fill one more bookcase than we actually own. (Or, in fact, three or four bookcases, cause let's face it, tiny, low-ceilinged, tatami-floored Japanese apartments are really not made for appropriate-sized bookcases :-p)

So, despite faaaar too little sleep, having to cancel weekend plans I'd been looking forward to, and my Saturday work schedule in general (oh so not a big fan for, well, the obvious reasons, i.e. WORK) I still had a FANTASTIC day. Mainly due to the weather. Or more specifically, SNOW!!!

For those of you who've lived in Japan (which is a surprisingly large number of my flist) you already are aware that winters here tend towards the mild side, at least in the three major population centers: the greater Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka (includes here in Kyoto) areas. Meaning for the Japanese, 0°C is f**king freezing. Yes, I laugh in the face of this. A LOT. And take great pleasure in freaking them out horribly when I duck outside in only short sleeves to run across to the convenient store. (It's a 30 second walk, and it's like 45°F, it's reeeallly not the end of the world people. Seriously.) It also means 'snow' for them is a light dusting that happens maybe a few times a year, and collects, if at all, for maybe an hour, before all signs have once more disappeared completely.

Except today! It snowed most of the day, nice big huge beautiful flakes, the wet kind that makes walking an exercise in balance and baby steps, but gorgeous to look at, sticking to trees, roofs, etc. In Kuzuha, where I was working, we got several inches accumulation which resulted in me having a huge, big, goofy grin firmly in place the entire day! Much to the student's and staff's amusement and/or chagrin (depending on their varying tolerances for the weather and how many times in the middle of a lesson my eyes wandered to the window. I couldn't help it. Prreeeettttyyy snow).

On the way back home on the train, I have a 25 minute ride I usually spend immersed in a book, or fic or video on my player. Today I spent the entire time staring out, couldn't look away, at the beautiful landscape, all the trees and houses, and bamboo (now THAT'S something yah don't seen in New England) silhouetted in white. And I realized just how much I missed it.

I mean, I knew already, have expressed, quite vocally at times, my envy whenever my parents sent me pics of the multiple feet of snow they have (yes, I prefer my snow measured in feet versus inches. Why yes, I just may be certifiable, what's your point?) But I just didn't realize until I was *this* happy how much I really *need* my crazy weather. I love my Falls in all their red-orange-brown-gold splendor, my Springs in their greens and purples and pinks, and my white, white winters. Okay, summer's humidity and heat and cockroaches I can so TOTALLY skip, but otherwise. Yeah, I love my seasons. A LOT. Weather, in all its variety, makes me happy. What can I say, I’m easy? ^_-

And to further the snow theme, Expandhere's another SGA chibi pic I did ), for one of [livejournal.com profile] xparrot's recent fics.

Which segues nicely into the other squee-worthy note of the day: ExpandSGA 4x16 'Trio'= oh SO GOOD! )
gnine: (Dr. W Fuck your shit up!)
First off, officially confirmed, we get David Tennant as the Doctor past fourth season!!. Hazaah! No fifth season in 2009, just specials, but at least those specials will still have ten and RTD at the helm, which makes me ridiculously happy. I can't help it, Who is love! *nimbly dodges [livejournal.com profile] utopiantrunks's wrath*

Secondly, this vid started up a YT phenomenon two months ago and probably most people have already seen it, but the entire idea of dance seeming to work as an incredibly effective prison reform method is just to awe-inspiring! Considering the acclaim it's getting, I hope more prisons give it a go.

Thirdly, I do so love the abundance of massage parlors in Japan. Mmm, my shoulders are sooo much happier.

And last but not least, getting locked out of one's apartment sucks! Thankfully my landlord is a very accommodating fellow or I would have been stuck waiting almost five hours till neechan returned from work. In un-air-conditioned halls. (Anyone who's been to Kyoto in the summer will understand the true gravity of such a situation, I guarantee!)

And thus concludes the random ramblings for today (hey, at least I'm posting, ne?)
