HOMG Odacchi, I forgot how much I love you!!!
So, over the past few days, in between classes, homework and a party, I've been doing something I've been meaning to do for several years now: catch up on One Piece. (For the last four years or so, I've only been reading it intermittently...often while standing around in a conbini, flipping through the latest Jump and Shonen Magazine and oh look, another thing I miss about Japan! :-p) And now, 250 scanlated chapters later, I've just caught up and just...asldkjfalkdjfalkkdj!!! HOMG...the sheer epic-ness of it all!!!
...I...I...I don't even know where to BEGIN?! HOMG, WHITE BEARD!!!! AHHHH! *meep* That's a start! And oh god, poor Ace having to watch all his nakama and his ototo fighting (and some dying) for him and being able to do nothing!
And just...wow, the forces...on both sides!! Craziness! Epic battles are epic!!

naye sent me that ep and just holy SHIT! Rip out my HEART, why don't you Tanaka Mayumi!!! And Oda, of course. Odacchi makes me cry like no one else. EVER! Over and over again. At that point, at Brook's story (HOMG, so saaaaaad) and losing the Going Merry (cried and cried over that...and I had already done so once before, in Japan. *that* chapter I didn't miss, even though I wasn't caught up at the time, I mean, it's the Merry!). How does he do it, time and time again?!
And meanwhile, I'm loving the current storyline but still wondering when we're getting all the nakama back. I mean...Luffy without his nakama is just tragic!
And how is this battle gonna END?! They're gonna save Ace, right? They'd better, I just...I just couldn't take it if they didn't! But really, I can't see Oda doing that to us....White Beard, on the other hand...I'm not so sure about! Oh god, that'll be awful! *whimper*
So...to sum up, I love Odacchi, my soul once more belongs to him and oh, can we have the next chapter NOW, plzkthnks!?!?!?!?

And also an evil, cruel-hearted bastard. And he does stories like nobody else - stuff like Silvers Rayleigh, who was briefly seen in a flashback in chapter NINETEEN.
Then his identity was finally revealed in chapter 500. Because that's not a long time to plan things in advance...!
Also - the Vivre Card that Ace gave Luffy, that became such an important plot point? That was right at the beginning of Alabasta. I don't have the chapter numbers in my head, but - Alabtasta, Skypiea, Water 7 + Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark... and then we find out what it is.
And then the flashbacks of tiny!Ace and tinier!Luffy and they BECOME BROTHERS because they WANT TO BE BROTHERS and nobody - NOBODY - can tell them they aren't.
And, oh. Garp. Who adopted his best enemy's son (after his own government went Herodes!) and raised him with his own grandson and then he can only laugh and laugh at the result - until it hurts too much for even him to laugh it away.
I am madly enough with the whole, crazy D family. Seriously. They are SPECIAL PEOPLE. And the way they relate to each other - oh. ♥
Then there's the way they relate to others...! Luffy making allies wherever he goes; which Mihawk rightly spotted as his absolutely most dangerous point (from a government POV). Ace joining the crew of the man he was tried to kill, after being a captain in his own right (and rejecting the title of Shichibukai!). Ace finding a father, because it's not like the boy has daddy issues or anything. XD
And Luffy, who gets destroyed by losing his crew. Who gets over that, but never stops missing them; needing them.
Who his hilariously reunited with old adversaries and buddies and - OH BON-CHAN. YOU HAD BETTER BE ALRIGHT...!!
Nobody is allowed to die, nobody (Oars is just a little unconscious! he'll get better! he will!!!), but - after the way last chapter ended...! *frets wildly*
(Ace can't die - it would make absolutely no sense, dramatically, to have had the last year's worth of manga be all about save Ace and then have Luffy out and out fail. That would be such a betrayal of the readers - no, I really don't believe that's in the cards. But. Whitebeard... UM. I am very, very scared of Odacchi changing his nobody-dies-in-One-Piece policy, because this is an EPIC battle, with EPIC stakes, and it would kind of make sense that there would be an epic, unprecedented kind of sacrifice in it...)
I have SO MUCH to say about One Piece, but - meep, I am leaving for Tokyo after work and I haven't packed or anything, so I don't have enough time! Oh noes!

It's all so epic and incredible and I can't believe Odacchi and his crazy, crazy planning of this story in advance, and now the ERA IS ABOUT TO CHANGE. And Shirohige is.... ^^;;;;
Ace has been needing a hug for a long while now. Just when you think it can't get any worse, it... gets worse.

And yeah, reading it again has reminded me that it's one of my favorites ever as well! It's just so damn AWESOME! And cracktastic, and heartwrenching and epic and fight shounen and just...yeah...Odacchi, you're a genius! Truly!

And okay, yes, admittedly people die all the time in backstory episodes. Just not in the *present*. And that's what's important.
....but I think he really might kill Whitebeard. Scary but true. ^_^
