Without considering gender I figured that A and B were together in the past and never repaired their relationship and so B is saying that A lost B. This would put B in a selfish, hurt, snappy mood. Given the moodiness that my scenario has been given and the 'happy for the rest of C's life' line I'd say it was either: A- Male B-Female C-Male or all female For some reason it seems odd to imply that B is male with the emotional setting that I put them in.
However, when placing the A and C used to be together scenario then I feel like B is saying that A lost C. Once that switch is made it's less a selfish, snappy, moody remark as it's a comment of possession and comparative competence. In this case I'd put all characters in the same gender, or A-female B-male C-female. In the last scenario A and B's relationship is that of broken friendship.
