Third and fourth season truly do have a lot of stuff worth watching...well, at least if you're a Rodney and/or McShep fan ^_^
It's funny, I got into vids (at least the watching of them) thru anime..., go to enough cons and the vid competitions and it's hard not to! But I've only ever *made* vids for western fandoms...*shrug* I know what you mean, though, so many AMVs are just SO high quality. Though I think working with animated footage versus live-action does make for very different vids and effects.
