...You know, now I'm wondering if this is a hidden factor that's more important than usually realized, and explains we have trouble bonding with female characters even when they're supposedly like us, beyond any kind of competitive urge. On TV, boys have more fun. John & Rodney were goofing off together starting with "Hide & Seek", while as Elizabeth or Keller were/are almost always responsible or nervous - they're not enjoying themselves, we don't get to see them enjoying themselves. We don't want to be them, or be friends with them, because they're just not having as good a time as the guys! (and not showing close female friendships is definitely a big impediment to this; it's harder to have fun without friends.) I wonder especially when one of the more popular female characters in the fandom is Cadman, with her girls' poker night and her jogging and her tap-dancing hobby - we would like to be friends with Cadman, it seems like it'd be a great time!
