So here I am in jolly old England, settling in, classes just starting up (something I do plan to write about soon, I swear...) and in between the socializing, studying and exploring, I find myself watching quite a bit of TV. This is happening in part because I always watch more when I live alone (something to do when relaxing before bed or while eating dinner, etc) and partly because while I'm studying, I often use TV as a reward for getting work done (write another page on this essay, and you can watch another episode, etc). Good motivation for a horrible procrastinator like myself ^_-.
Anyways, my request: I'm looking for series to watch. (Just got through all of Criminal Minds, need something new...) It can be new or old (and by old, I mean whenever. Keep in mind one of my most recent fandoms was Man from UNCLE, and if that's not old skool, don't know what is...^_-) Any genre, whatever. If it's one of your favorites or just something you think'd be fun to watch. Just gimme a brief description, maybe why I might like it...(bonus points for anything with hurt/comfort, teaminess or siblings being cute)
Thanks flist, I'm counting on you! ^_^
ETA: As a reference to those who are reccing things, a list of what I have seen:
...I almost hesitate in posting this due to the sheer size...oops. And these are just the western fandoms, the list would be twice as long, at least, if I included anime/J-dramas...:-p
All of these are shows I've seen at least one full season of (some I haven't seen past that, like Heroes, due to lack of interest, but I've seen enough to get the feel of it)
Bold is for shows that I fanned on, by watching repeatedly/reading fic/reccing it, etc.
* means fandoms I've actually produced stuff for, be it art, fic, vids, whatnot...
30 Rock, Alien Nation, Arrested Development, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Babylon 5, Batman Beyond, Battlestar Galactica, Being Human, Big Bang Theory, Burn Notice, Carnivale, Castle, Colditz, Criminal Minds, Dinosaurs, Doctor Who, Due South, Eureka, Farscape, Firefly, Forever Knight, Gargoyles, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, Highlander*, Hustle, Invisible Man,Jeeves and Wooster, Justice League Unlimited, Legend (1995), Leverage, Life, Life on Mars, Lois and Clark, Lost, Malcom in the Middle, Man from UNCLE*, Merlin, NCIS*, NCIS: LA, Night Court, Numb3rs, Once a Thief, Prison Break, Professionals, Psych, Pushing Daisies, Quantum Leap, Queer as Folk (UK only), Real Ghostbusters*, Red Dwarf , Sapphire and Steel, Scrubs, Seaquest, Sentinel*, Seven Days, Sliders, Smallville*, Star Trek (all except for Enterprise), Stargate Atlantis*, Stargate SG-1*, Starsky and Hutch, Static Shock, Supernatural, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles , The Shield, Torchwood, Traders, True Blood, Twin Peaks, United States of Tara, Wiseguy, WitchBlade, Xena, X-Files*, X-men (Animated Series and Evolution)
...And chances are I've missed something...:-p
As someone already mentioned in the comments about keeping an eye on this post for ideas of there own, if there's any shows in this list you're interested in, feel free to ask for a description, rec, review, etc...

Date: 2009-10-10 05:41 pm (UTC)British flavored Starsky and Hutch fighting terrorists, smugglers and gun runners each week while calling each other pet names such as Sunshine and Angelfish. "Discovered in a Graveyard" is the ouchiest episode made and if you're lucky enough to find it, you'll never climb out of Pros fandom again.
Since you like Man From U.N.C.L.E. You might want to give Sapphire and Steel a shot if you can find it. Illya - David McCan-never-spell-his-name- plays Steel. Sci Fi drama.

Date: 2009-10-10 06:53 pm (UTC)Series wot I have enjoyed recently:
Invisible Man: AWESOME. It's about a thief named Darien who gets a gland implanted in his head that enables him to become invisible, and is forced to work for a secret Agency to solve crimes and stop terrorism and that kind of thing. It's got lovely teamy moments between Darien, his partner and his Keeper, and h/c in literally *every single episode*-- it's beautiful. And the entire thing is up on hulu/youtube.
The Chronicle: Cute little series about a reporter who can't get a job anywhere else, so he has to join a tabloid of the Bigfoot-Ate-My-Baby type-- only to find out that everything they write about is 100% real. I'm only on episode 4, so I'll let this ship manifesto (http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/183490.html) speak to why it's so awesome. (Downloads here (http://community.livejournal.com/heard_of_it/16960.html), tho you have to join the comm to see them.)
Warehouse 13: Brand new
SciFi ChannelSyFy series, kind of dorky and adorable, about two Secret Service agents who get shanghaied into working at the Warehouse, a repository for supernatural objects. Great partner dynamics between Pete and Myka, the two leads, and some pretty awesome secondary characters. And they definitely aren't afraid to throw the characters from moving cars and that sort of thing. (Note: the first two episodes aren't great, but it hits its stride after that.)and, of course: THE MIDDLEMAN. Fantastically quirky series that was cut cruelly short. Wendy Watson, a struggling artist, gets recruited by a secret agency to solve exotic problems and fight against evil forces. Lots of lovely friendships and teaminess. I basically love this show with all my heart.

Date: 2009-10-10 06:55 pm (UTC)There is also the bbc iplayer for all british cousins if you havent found that yet.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
All the bbc programming from the past week is there so if you miss something you can watch it without bittorrents. You can also download any programme and keep it for a month. Its very handy when Doctor Who is on because you can watch it legally as many times as you want. You can also get all the bbc radio stations there too. [Radio 1= under 30s pop Radio 2= Mainstream pop Radio 3= classical music Radio 4= one of the remaining pillars of civilised society Radio 5= live news and sport Radio 6= Indie/jazz/punk Radio 7= bbc spoken word archive [many science fiction plays] and the World Service.
You could always try Only Fools and Horses which is about two brothers in 1980s London.

Date: 2009-10-10 07:08 pm (UTC)Wai, Leverage! I've been very much enjoying that one, especially those three featured in your icon. So very OT3 for me, can't help it, they're adorable!

Date: 2009-10-10 07:10 pm (UTC)Since you already watch Leverage, how about NCIS? It is nominally a dectecive show about navy cops, but really it is all about the teaminess!

Date: 2009-10-10 07:11 pm (UTC)Hee, also seen Sapphire and Steel (my sister and I got so terribly hardcore into David McCallum, that we went and watched most of what he's been in that we could get our hands on.) I really liked S&S, interesting ideas.
Hmmm, I probably should have put a list of what shows I have seen...thanks for the suggestions though...

Date: 2009-10-10 07:13 pm (UTC)Mmm, as my sister just said, I-man was a favorite. And yeah, the h/c came in high quantities with that show! ^_^ We just rewatched the whole thing a year or two ago, think I loved it even more on second viewing...
Hmmm, will have to check out the others, they sound fun! How long was Middleman on for before they canceled it?
Thanks so much for the recs, *huggles*

Date: 2009-10-10 07:15 pm (UTC)Hmmm, I clearly should include a list of shows I've already seen...though I'm almost scared to write up that list, due to the length of it...^_-

Date: 2009-10-10 07:16 pm (UTC)And yes, yay OT3!! They're all so freaking adorable together, I just wanna hug 'em and squish 'em and--
*ahem*. Sorry, got a little carried away there. But yeah, I really wish I'd known about it when it was first out; there's barely any fandom left. Kinda sad.

Date: 2009-10-10 07:17 pm (UTC)Hmm, will have to check out the iplayer, thanks for the link.
Hmmm, show about brothers, that's always a plus, how long is that one?
Thanks for the link! I was thinking next weekend for possible get together, btw? How does that work for you?

Date: 2009-10-10 07:27 pm (UTC)Middleman was on for a grand total of 12 episodes. :( The 13th, final ep never got produced, but it was made into a comic, plus the actors also did a table-reading of the script at Comic Con this past July-- the video is up on youtube. Really, if you only pick one series to watch from those four, choose that one-- if you *don't* fall in love with it, I'll eat my hat.

Yeah next weekend sounds great. We'll have a look for things to do but if youve got any suggestions we can do that.
Only Fools and Horses are 25 minutes long (theyre good to watch whilst eating tea, the episode I gave you has Jim Broadbent in) It ran for 22 years, so if you like it there's certainly enough to keep you occupied :)
GeorgieSmith sent us a really fun tv series last week which we'll give you called Adam Adamant. It's about a Victorian gentlemen hero who gets crygenically frozen by his arch nemisis 'the face' and wakes up in swinging London in 1966. [its what Austin Powers was based on] The actor in it is sooooo like David Tennant its just very funny. He has a blonde companion like Rose too. Its from the same producers as Doctor Who.
Oh and there's always Raffles- the most slashy slash programme Ive ever seen. The couple in that make Solo and Illya seem positively hetrosexual.
