So, over the last...um...while, I haven't really been into any particular fandom and sadly this means my art production rate has dropped severely. *sigh* But, between Xmas, several recent B-days, and one doodles-turned-assignment, I have done a few. Thought I'd share:

Being the rather ridiculously poor grad student that I am, Xmas presents consisted predominantly of the homemade, in the shape of art.

For my parents, I did a pic of me and the sibs, being very...well...us:

For the bro and M, I did them with their two ridiculously adorable kitties (miss them so badly! The dorm doesn't allow cats *sniffle*):

For neechan, I did character/costume designs for two original characters, originally from her Shosetsu BangBang stories. The pics were really one part present, one part bribe to get her to write more of them (a successful bribe at that! W00t!).

Lastly, for [livejournal.com profile] takadainmate and [livejournal.com profile] cienna, I did a quick chibi!Cas for their Xmas card/present. Um...if you know them, the basket and mini-tentacle monster make sense (well...okay...not sure if "make sense" is entirely accurate, even if you do know them ^_- ...but um, their presence is at least understandable), otherwise..um...probably best not to ask...^_-

Moving on from Xmas (um...my darling dearest Ri-chan, your present has been *nearly* done for a while now, but I thought that, since it's late enough now, I could give it to you in person when you come in May?...err...yeah, I suck...But, after 20 plus years, you're probably used to it...^_-), this past month I attended two birthday parties, and continued the trend of art-as-gift...

First, there was [livejournal.com profile] pixiequeen10thk's party, where we went to see Avenue Q, so much fun! Followed by a pub visit and a glorious, fan-themed cake! As I met her originally through SGA and I know Rodney remains one of her all-time favorite characters, I did a Mcshep-themed card:

The following week was [livejournal.com profile] cienna's birthday, where we went for Japanese style karaoke, HOMG MISSED IT SO MUCH! And then a nice dinner. Decided to go for a rather new fandom for me (and her) and did the White Collar OT3. (I've had a thing for threesomes for a while in various fandoms, but this one...I swear, it's practically cannon! ^__^)

Apart from gifts, most of my art, since I started my Masters program, has been in the form of doodles. Lots and lots and lots. Most of them I haven't bothered to scan as they're all over the place in quality and detail, but these ones sorta...turned into an assignment.

See, during one of my classes, I was at a loss for what to draw, and started chibifying my classmates. And well...some of them noticed. And liked them (and demanded to be drawn, in Azar's case, as he was sitting next to me, looking over my shoulder from the start). For this class, it so happened that we have this short, ~2000 word assignment that's supposed to be a rather free-form diary of sorts, that touches in some way on 'audiences' and our experience as or with them. (The class is titled "Rethinking Audiences", so...well...) Anyways, after class, as several of the other students wandered over to see the sketches, they suggested I use them for the assignment, commenting on their reactions and responses to the drawings, and my experience as having unwittingly created an "audience" (no one was really suppose to see them, oops). The professor liked the idea as well, so I wound up drawing the rest of the class and the two professors, and putting them all up on facebook, where the few students not in the class but in the department (it's fairly small, and most of the classes have a large overlap) requested I draw them as well. So, class chibis:

As with any of my art, C & C is always very welcome and appreciated.

Aww, thank you! I've missed posting art. One of the many drawbacks to not being involved in a fandom...

Hee! I especially like the one of you and your sibs. Think I recognize most of the places in the "waves", too. ;)

It was wonderful seeing your chibis of the RL people. I mean, chibis are really simplistic, so to get enough facial variation for make them look like real people must be a challenge. ...and just now I realized that you put different cities' pictures in the reflection of the water. Fun detail!

Also, I fell like with your coloring of your chibis, you do too good a job. You use your shading/coloring technique that you do on your bigger, more detailed work. It makes the chibis look a bit over-worked. You should consider a simpler coloring scheme, like cell shading.

I love the picture of the 3 of you. Very nice. I think it's my fav. But I also like some of the class chibis. Enis especially just seems to have lots of character in the way he's focused on the laptop.

Aww... I love the chibis of your class! So cute! But I'm also awfully partial to my White Collar OT3 chibis.

It's one of the things I love about doing chibis, trying to get the right details to distinguish. Which was why I started sketching my class in the first place, as just an exercise in variety (I think there are at least 10 different nationalities represented in those pics...maybe more...)

As for the coloring, I might try that. When I first started doing chibis, I wasn't doing as clear, distinct line-work, so the shaded coloring was necessary for detail, but now...you do have a point. Will have to give cell shading style a try, see how it works. Thanks for the suggestion! ^_^ *huggles*

I had so much fun doing the three of us. Our wacky sibling hijinks work well in chibi ^_^.

Yeah, I like the Enis one. I think his, Azar's and Healah's are my favorites.

...soooo excited to see you! Next week! *bounce* *huggles*

Here following your SO CUTE!!! icon on a comment to something on WhiteCollarFic... Chibi!Neal, Peter, and El just ROCK! Love the SGA ones, too, and that golden-furred beast-guy in the lace-up trousers has me thinking I should check out the related story... (AARGH! I don't have TIME for another fandom! *sigh*)

The cute kitties are wonderful, too. :-)

More, Please?

Have you tried anthropomorphic versions of characters like the "White Collar" folks? Neal should be a fox or a coyote (IIRC, there are some sorta rare black foxes, which would be better for his hair-color), Peter a big dog (one of the very smart breeds like a shepherd or retriever), and El a Siamese cat (the old-fashioned type, comfortably rounded, not the exaggeratedly-angular, long-faced ones that're the current cat-show "breed standard" these days).

Post links to the WhiteCollarFic community when you do more, okay?

Hee, thanks so much! I really do need to do some more White Collar, maybe some full-length chibi comics the way I used to for SGA...

And the part-Lion guy is Cale, and sadly, there is not a fandom as such, as he's an original character of my sister's, written for an online original BL stories 'zine....but I'm trying to get her to write the full novel...sooo...*fingers crossed* The stories are quite fun, though, definitely recommend them, and they're both fairly short, so...

I've done a few sorta anthropmorphic things, been meaning to try more. And those animals would work well for them, might have to give it a go...^_^
