Weekend of SQUEEEEEE (and huggles!)
Jul. 19th, 2010 03:28 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
As anyone who knows me well knows, just the huggles part is enough to make for a good weekend for me (for those who don't, I'll freely admit I'm kinda a cuddles addict! ^_-) The fact that one of the weekend's many hugs was with Ben Browder (Crichton, Farscape) was just one piece in a squee-packed two days.
Bringing William Shatner his tea (and Elisabeth Sladen--Sarah Jane Smith, Doctor Who--her coffee) was another!
Even just as a con attendee (which was what I arrived on Sat. expecting to be), it was shaping up to be a blast! I mean, panels with William Shatner, Ben Browder, the three leads of Being Human (now THOSE are some PRETTY people!), William B. Davis (ah, CSM and The X-Files, now THAT brings me back! ^_^), Dante Bosco (his speaking voice is almost the exact same one he uses for Zuko, which made the panel extra amusing, as Dante is rather bouncy-happy! ^_-) Katee Sackhoff--Starkbuck, BSG --(whose panel I didn't get to in the end, but did get to sit near her for a bit, so...*shrug*), Elisabeth Sladen (also missed her panel, but hey, as said above, brought her her coffee and got a very grateful thanks, wow but she was crazy busy doing autographs!) and more along just for autographs and photos, like David Nykl (Zelenka!) and Virgina Hey (Zhaan, Farscape).
But see, what made the weekend particularly special was Sat. morning, a little after I entered the con, I was standing around in a loooong line...err...queue (UK and all that ^_- ) waiting to get tickets to Shatner and Ben's talks. I wound up texting one of my merlin meet-up friends, (
krazykipper, you rock, thank you so much!!), who'd been crewing cons for years and said she'd be working this one, and she mentioned that they were short on crew as there'd been some no shows, which explained the slow-moving lines. At this point, semi-jokingly, I said if they took on-the-spot volunteers, I'd be happy to lend a hand. Five minutes later I was skipped to the front of the line to get my talk tickets, given a crew badge and put to work! ^_^
The first day I was plunked down in front of Russell Tovey and Lenora Crichlow (George and Annie from Being Human)'s autograph lines, doing virtual queue tickets and keeping the line in order (and giving me a great view of the two of them ^_^) for most of the rest of the day. Though I did get time off for their talk, as well as William B. Davis' and Ben Browder's (crew usually doesn't get off for talks, but as I was new recruit that'd already paid for them, I was allowed ^__^)
William B. Davis' was in the morning, and was just a half an hour, but was fun to hear him talk about his X-files days and other projects. And also amusingly odd to see CSM being all smiles and happy! ^_-

The Being Human cast were ADORABE together (three of them plus director Colin Teague):

...I can't remember if that last one was "wtf are they asking" or a "no seriously, what are they asking, we can't HEAR them" looks (the talk area wasn't exactly sound proofed from the rest of the con...:-p) but either way, I love all three of their expressions!
The first half of the talk was about BH, but the second half was on a new project that Teague and Aiden Turner (Mitchell) are working on, of which they showed us a 7 minute clip before the Q&A. Adorably, when the clip started, Lenora and Russell (having apparently not seen it themselves) jumped off the stage and joined the audience for the viewing:

So cute! I get the impression they're a pretty snuggly cast in general! ^_^
Ben Browder's talk followed directly after and HOMG, he was HILARIOUS! One of the best guests I've seen at a con. So animated and bouncy and seemed to having a blast (and at the end was like, "NO, you can't cut me off! I WILL keep going...wait, you control the mic, no FAIR") and there was some amusing Chris Judge pranking stories, and just, yeah! So much fun!

Then it was back to 'work' for me. As the day wound down and only a few of the guests remained, I was able to sneak off and grab pictures with David and Virginia (she was SO sweet! and chatted for a bit with several of us crew members ^__^)

Apparently I didn't make a total mess of it and they asked me back to help out Sunday as well (the only slight draw back being I had to be there at quarter of 8...yeah, if this post is a bit...incoherent, it's due to an extreme lack of sleep this weekend...but OH SO WORTH IT! ^_-)
Sunday I was assigned as an extra runner for half of the autograph area (meaning I basically ran and did whatever the pit boss needed me to do), a duty which included things like getting tea and coffee for the guests and such. Which also meant I was in and out of the green room a lot, which was in and of itself fun, as it was neat to see the actors laid back, chatting with each other and such.
As a Trekkie from pretty much birth (my mom being one since she was a girl) bringing William Shatner his tea was rather one of the more squeetastic moments of the day. Getting to go to his panel was fun as well!

Getting to hear Dante Bosco talk was fun as well (even asked a question) and later got his autograph as I discovered that one was for free. He was being great and chatting to each person (me and the guy in front of me got into a little conversation with him about the upcoming Avatar: Last Airbender cartoon thing, which he said he knew some about but said he probably wasn't going to be in it :(, still can't wait for it though!) Also got a pic with him!

And oh look, didn't realize till just now, but in the background is Julie Caitlin Brown (who played Na'Toth on B5) but she wasn't there as a guest but rather works as a con agent for a whole slew of actors (
cienna,
takadainmate, you might remember her more as SCARY LADY from Rising con! ^_-) (Which meant she could kinda order us around, and I got to talk with her a bit about Na'Toth and doing the make-up and such in between sorting out autograph lines at one point, so awesome!)
And then as Sun wound down, I got "cheeky" as Kip labeled it ^_-, when, after Ben Browder had been giving some hugs to some crew members in his area and I was nearby doing another job, I sorta impulsively asked for a hug, too, as he went by. Which he gave me! And JUST, wheee! He's a good hugger! And such a sweetie! ^_^
Then it was clean-up, which is kinda crazy to watch as a con hall gets stripped down and emptied out!
And in the end, after all this fantasticness, I GOT PAID! Enough that it paid for the con and the extra talks and such so I broke even! Maybe even made like 5 pounds! And got a crew shirt, and free lunch, and got to work with amazing, wonderful people! Seriously, all the crew I worked with were sooo nice and welcoming (and huggy!) and just...yeah...to sum up:
HOMG, FANTASTIC, AMAZING, SQUEE FILLED WEEKEND!!!! ^____^
